<p>This Indenture made the Ninth day of July in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and seventy<br />one Between the Feoffees and Directors for the City of Williamsburg of the one Part and Thomas Craig of the same<br />City Taylor of the other Part Whereas the Feoffees and Directors of the City of Williamsburg by their certain ~<br />Indenture of Lease bearing date the fifth day of February one thousand seven hundred and forty nine did<br />Demise to John Dixon Gent a certain Parcel of Ground situate in the Market Place on the south side<br />of the Main Street for the Term of twenty one years renewable to the said John Dixon his Exers Admors or -<br />Assigns for the further Term of twenty one years from the expiration of the said Lease upon paying down to the -<br />Feoffees and Directors of the said City a fine of three Years Ground Rent and Whereas the said Thomas Craig hath<br />Purchased the said John Dixons Estate and Interest in the said Ground and is desirous of receiving the said Lease<br />Now This Indenture Witnesseth that for and in consideration of the sum of Fifteen Pounds by the said Tho<sup>s</sup>.<br />Craig to the said Feoffees & Directors in hand Paid the Receipt whereof they do hereby acknowledge as also for divers<br />good Causes them therunto moving but more especially for and in Consideration of the Rents Covenants &<br />Conditions herein after mentioned and expresed Have demised Granted and to Farm Letten and by these -<br />Presents Do demise Grant and to farm lett unto the said Thomas Craig a certain parcel of ground scituate<br />in the Market Place on the south side of the Main Street and Bounded as in [th]e said Lease is mentioned<br />To ha[ve] and to hold [t]he said Piece of ground acc[o]rding to the Dimensions [w]hereof described i[n] [torn, illegible]</p>

Indenture between Thomas Craig, tailor of Williamsburg, Va. and the Feoffees and Directors of Williamsburg for the lease of lot 12 in Williamsburg. The lot is located on the south side of Market Square. This property was previously leased by John Dixon. Craig acquired the lease after purchasing Dixon's estate. The indenture is signed by Peyton Randolph, John Blair, William Pierce, Severinus Durfey, James Minzies, Benjamin Harrison, William Rose and James Douglas.
