Warrant issued by William S. Harrison, Justice of the Peace for Charles City County, authorizing the jailer of Charles City County to receive Charles into custody. Charles was an enslaved man belonging to Camilla A. M. Harrison of Charles City County. Hanson requested Charles be kept in the jail.

Charles City County to wit

Whereas Camilla A M Harrison the mistress of a negro man slave
names Charles is desirous of confining said negro slave in the Jail of the County aforesaid and has
made application to me a Justice of the peace for said County for that purpose; and I being of
opinion that such slave may be so confined without public inconvenience

These are therefore in the name of the Commonwealth to authorise you to receive into
your Jail and Custody [illegible] the said slave Charles, and to keep him in the Jail
aforesaid until he shall be released by lawful authority to his said mistres, or
until the public convenience shall require his discharge

Given under my hand & Seal this 13th day of January 1838
William S. Harrison Justice. [of the] Peace.
