1746/7
Febry 19th went in the Rain towards Germanna, mett, Mrs
Spotswood, Dandridge & Isaac Campbel who waited for Us at
the Bridge Quarter, the last had his horse killd by a Stallion
got to Germanna at Night
20th Spent in settling sundry Accounts
21st in the same Manner, went at Night to Major
Finlasons -
22nd went to Church heard Mr Thompson preach, on the
words your Life is had with Christ in God - went to the
Glebe
23d Settled I hope all differences in the family and
laid a plan for preventing any
24th came early to Germanna where found Col B. Moore
and his Lady, Settled Mr Thompsons account wt some
others
25th came to Newpost
26- went, to See Mr Benyers plantation returnd to N,post
and went to Falmouth, bought a Servt for Mrs Home
27, Settled Chews Acct wt Mr Rae, a[nd] my own; came to New
post, Settled Mr Sewards Acct, went to Mrs Battailes
28 came in the Rain to port Royal, mett wt Mr Hill & others
came to Dr Roys at Night.
March 1st came home dressd and went to Church, returnd Home
2d. - went to Mrs Parents and brought Home, Mr Benyers Son
and [illegible]
3d went about my plantation, married Jno Carnal and
Sarah widow of Wm Clarke
4th, a rainy Day at home, read part of Sully pro Clelio; went
in the Evening and Married James Bates at Wm Thomass
5th Clear and Cold, went to Mrs Brooke and returned
6th Stayd at Home married Jno Cochran & Sarah, Landrum
wrote all day spent the Evening wt D Graham Messrs

March, 7th went with Mr Graham to Mr. Brookes returnd
8th preachd a Benefit Sermon, for Mr Philips, sleept
at Major Daingerfields -
9th borrowed £113-3-10½ from, Messrs Daingerfield &
[?], returnd and spent the Even wt Mr Reid and
Mitchel -
10th Went to Stafford, in Order to wait on Mr Fitzhugh sent
by Dr Roy 15 ps, of Gold, for Mr Spotswood £99-6-3-
11- in Stafford, wrote, Mr Fitzhughs Will, He divided his
Negros, and assignd his 3 Sons their Shares -
12- Dined wt Dr Allison called on Mr Walker, slept
at Mr Battailes
13th Went to New post, dined, and Came to Capt
R Taliaferros at Night advised against [?] Berrymans mar
-riage [to] [?] Taliaferro -
14 - called and dined at Mr came home
15, went to Church and returnd
16, went to Laytons to hears News, mislaid my
pocket [torn, illegible], and Slept, by reason of rain at

17, Had Mess[s]rs Moore & Benyers Compy - at home
18 - went wt them , to Col Braxton,s -
19th went to Mr Moores -
20th returnd, and dined wt Mr Brooke of K Wm, &
slept at Col Braxton junrs
21st Breakfasted wt, Braxton ye Elder, and returnd

March 23d, a haizy and rainy Day Every Body has got Cold,s
24th, Wrote sundry letters, to Scotland, in the Morning and
went to Rappahanock; Spent the Evening on board Capt Perry

25th took my leave of Mr James Gray settled accts, with Him
-came home wt the Captains, Perry Gray & Montgomerie
26 Stayd at home in the Morning went to the Warhouse
about Noon & Returnd, to dinner, Hazy weather -
27 - visited Capt Garnet where found his Daugher
suffocated with phlegm, came home & found my Lever
poole Letters, and Mr Jno Somerville & Mr Campbel
28th Dined at home, Went to Mr Parents & returnd -
29th went to Church, but so hoarse that I could not
preach after Dinner went wt Mr Anderson
in my way to Tye River
30, left Mr J, Brookes got to Capt Taliaferros
by one and to Mr Zach: Lewis,s, dined at the
Mines and Lodged at G Gibsons in Louisa
Ap 1st, Eat Br[ea]kfast wt Dr [Wa]lker, visited
Mrs Fry and lay that [torn, illegible] after a tedious
Journey at the N Garden, a Quarter of Dr Wal-
-kers, one Lyon Overseer,
2d - got to my Quarter, on Hat Creek -
3-4th - Messrs. Taliaferro & Dr Walker worked hard on
my Mill a peice of Work, I am imposed in, by
Jana Woodson Who is Run away -
5th - called, at my own & other plantations and
lay at Capt Taliaferros Quarter on [?] Creek
6th Went over the [?] Mountain wt Dr Walker
to Mr J Harvies - at Aberfoyle -

Ap 7th Spent the Day W=wt Mr Harvie, who is of opinion the
Master is lyable for the Negligence of his Slave
8th This Morning We found the place justly named Aber-
foyle, for of Eight Horses, we put in the pasture
last Night not one to be seen, hunted for them
& lost, Wm Fitzhugh & Zach: Taliaferro, who
rambled without their Breakfast to 5, pm -
9th Set out about 5 in the Morning reached Tye
Rivers Mouth by eleven, bad Road, Capt Cabals at
one; the Courthouse about 5, and One [?]
the Late Secretary Carters Overseer about 11
10, Got to Dr Walkers about 10 - Rain - lay by
all day; at Night Peters wt my Baggage came
up - Mem Christned in Albemarle 31 persons
11 - left Dr Walkers at 7, & got to New post -
12 - on Mr Benyers Horse got to Sales Church
but foundred the Horse - found my Fami-
-ly in health & sundry letters for Me
13 - Rested at Home -
14th went a fishing without Success -
15 - at Home -
16 - went to the Warehouse to, a Sale, where Nothing
was done & returned at Night
17 - Good Friday preached to a very Small Congregation
18 - Carryd, my Daughter to her Grand Mothers and Aunts
came home at Night in a thunder Shower -
19th preached at the Upper Church was forced to go -
wt Mr Corbin to eat Green peas, came home at
Night - -

Ap: 20th} a Rainy Day Mr Corbin & Capt Ward came to the
Glebe in the Evening -
21 a Cloudy day set my people to get Timber for
a bridge over the Creek -
22d, Mr Corbin called this Morining in his Way home
Spent the dAy wt my Brother
23d Mr Mitchel Spent the Evening wt my Brother & Me
24-Busied My self in seeing a Bridge made into the
Marsh -
25 continued the same and finished it
26 went to Church thence to Colo Beverleys then Home
Spent the evening wt Capt Tho:s Buckner -
27, a very rainy Day Capt Buckner stayd wt
28 - the same Weather Me these two days
29 - cleard up went to [?] to get Bills from
Capt Ward for Mr Spotswoods Iron - Slept
at Mr Brookes; warm -
30 - came home, and carryd, the children to see
Capt Garnets Brigantine launched but were
disappointed - returned at Night
May 1st warm weather, christned, Mr J Warings.

Parents, christned John Thomas Daughter
and got home at Night, Mr Fry called on

4th Warm & Windy Set out for Midlesex, John -

got to Urbanna almost blinded wt Down & Dust
