Description
James Macleod, merchant of Yorktown, Virginia, letter to Mann Page, Rosewell, Gloucester County, Virginia dated July 10, 1790. Macleod writes about packing tobacco and to inform Page that he has sent him wine, wine glasses and salt. Macleod adds that no fruit was available in town but he does have rum.

Mann Page Esquire York July 10th.. 1790
Sir,I have been favored with yours, & an order
inclos'd for the eight Hogsheads Tobacco, which
are to be picked and priz'd into one Hogshead the
Inspectors say they will not make one Hogshead.
If they do not I shall find Tobacco to
make up the deficiency, I have sent you
three Gallons of Madeira Wine at 12/. per
Gallon, I think, pretty good, 1 Dozen of
Wine Glasses & a Sack of Salt. No Fruit
in Town nor Sir. Brandy, If you are in
want of Rum I have some excellent
Spirits, but will soon be gone am
most respectfully Sir, your very Humble Servant
