The three Burkes, Edmund, William and Richard, all appear to have written for the Evening post over the signature of Valens.
Henry Laurens, in his Narrative (South Carolina Historical Society, Collections, v. 1, p. 22) states that Captain Lloyd, of the British Navy, gave him a pamphlet "written and published by himself, under the signature of 'Valens, ' in which the war ... is condemned" [etc.].
