Williamsburg May 12 1766

You see my dear Johnie I neglect not opportunity
of writing to you convinced it pleases you to hear from your
friend. Dr Peterson was so kind to call on me this morning to
know if I had any commands he seems to be a very polite gen
tleman, I was extremely pleased as it shewd his regard for you;

Mr Trebell came home yesterday morning, he tells me Jamie
has Rented a House very convenient for his business with all
necessary out Houses, a pasture for catle, & liberty of cuting
wood for £20 a year, which he thinks very reasonable, God
grant him success poor Fellow, I greatly fear his wife will
never be able to help him get or save a living, she mends
so slowly, he dont go up till after the june Court

I suppose you have heard of the Death of that very
worthy man the Speaker, Dr Peterson can tell you the particulars
concerning or it, his corps was carried up to his seat yester-
day in the afternoon, all three of the Bells Tolling it was at
tended by all the gentlemen in Town in Coaches & Chariots as
far as Mrs Camps, Mr A Craig Mr Nickleson Mr Hay & Mr Trebell
is gone quite up with it; how many people will feel the
loss of his Benevolent Heart & Liberal Hand, which always has been
so ready to assist the wretched, he will now be rewarded
for all those vitues he truly abounded in

our dear tender mother is very well in health tho she
is always lementing that she must part with her Boys but
hopes its for their Interest, I think she grows more anxious
about her childrend then ever, her girls will not stay with
her a great while longer as I imagine Lucy will live

with Sally when she is married, & that will be about the

have R. Coke the old people are extremely fond of it they
they had her dine with them a few days ago & sent Rob
home with her: (alls well that ends well,) I hope she will
be happier then her sisters h[as] been in their marriages,
remember Mr to Mr [?] tell him i'll thank him
when I see him for his kind present, I have some thoughts
of comeing down with the two Mrs Finnies in their Boat
as they intend down this week & have given me an invita
sion to go with them, I shall not determine (till I consult Mr
Trebell) whether I go with them or not

You have turnd poor Eadys head by useing her so extr
=emely civil she can talk of nothing but the Rain bon
she swears its a Town & she coud live in it for ever
provided it went no farther from Wmburg,
